About The Education Committe

The Education Committee has the overall responsibility to promote and strengthen the training of rehabilitation professionals (initial and continuing training) and cooperation with training institutions. The Committee liaises with the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO), and contributes to the development of national and / or regional human resource development policies, advises governments and support the process of implementing programs training (initial and ongoing) and their regional and / or international recognition.
The Education Committee of the FATO is working with all stakeholders in the field of research, development and monitoring of the education program in the field of training of rehabilitation professionals.
Endorsing the recommendations of the 1st Regional Meeting of African training schools and institutes, the FATO, in collaboration with the ICRC and WHO remain committed to collaborate for the removal of the barriers impeding the inclusion of persons with disabilities in communities, and the lack of trained P&O professionals have been underlined by the World Disability Report as one of the main barriers hampering access to appropriate P&O services.
With this framework, the FATO Education Committee with the support of the FATO Executive Board is organizing the 2nd Regional Meeting of African P&O Training schools and Institutions in Yamoussoukro, Cote d’Ivoire, on 27-28 September 2013, the importance and high expectations of the outcome of the present session, aims are to:
- elaborate a plan to strengthen prosthetics and orthotics training programmes and services in the region
- identify new training possibilities and
- develop a network among the training institutes
